I’ve been dancing since I was seven. Eight hours of ballet a week, five days of classes and rehearsals, competitions on the weekends, and scholarship classes in New York in the summer. I worked for everything I am as a performer. In business I never gave up my morals to get ahead. Through drive and persistence I’ve found a home for myself with the Pussycat Dolls for the past 6 years.
The criticism we get for being scantily clad strippers and glorified back-up dancers tends to sting at times. Especially late at night after giving everything you have on stage, sitting in your hotel room, searching the internet, and taking time to give back in thanks for all that I’ve acquired through the love of fans. Feeling misunderstood through comments on blog spots, everyone’s willing to give an opinion.
For those that have been inspired by the Dolls you tend to understand what it is we do and by joining me here are able to see past the wall of judgment, thank you. This group is a platform for us all and everyday we battle the four walls around us hoping to be understood. Truth is, people find it easier to judge in disgust not knowing their disgust is a reflection of the cycle they carry within themselves.
I chose my job to entertain. “My definition” of entertains means to take people away from their everyday lives for a moment and bring a smile to every fan. In my life I still search for opportunity to continue on my journey. The politics within the situation are not always easy but are they ever, in any situation? Moving forward, always open to new opportunity to be seen and heard. All for the bigger purpose of shining positive light and helping others find the light within themselves.
The lessons in all of this to me are the power of choice. Reading the negative messages with empathy for its masked writers. Seeing the sad lives of people who gossip in hate. Watching tortured souls scavenge for a top position no matter what it takes. Where is the love for life? How is there so much time on peoples hands that they take time out to dwell in hatred and disgust?
Then I come here to Beautiful Movements, a place where we are able to work everyday at freeing ourselves from the gloom in the worlds around us. A finished thought that came to life. Here I know I serve the purpose I want to serve and put my positive action to the test. Life can’t get you down if you are always searching within when it tends to get tough.
The ride of life is constantly on the move. We sometimes get drug through the muck but with positive choice and action comes power. The battle to dismiss the gossip we hear, the need to fit in by joining it and the “cool” people feel they get from it will never go away. But the choice to stay away from it, take action to avoid it, and find “cool” in loving life is a possibility. Nobody likes to be alone and nobody likes to be disliked, although you can manifest it through your actions. Be noticed for the good you do in life.
I continue to dance through life. Each day is a battle for deep breaths and perseverance. Practice always makes the journey one step closer to perfection. I may be one person, nameless to many, adored by some, and disliked by few but I live through positive choice for all. You can’t change anyone or make people live from love but you can do your best to be an example. |
